Discounts on photography and other hardware ... Like to save money? Are you a student or the parent of a student attending K-12 or college, or are you an educator? Then take advantage of the many discounts on hardware and software (lots and lots of them photography-related) offered by Academic Superstore, some up to 85% off of retail pricing. I've personally saved hundreds of dollars, the customer service is excellent, and they provide quick shipping and status updates. I've had absolutely no problems and have been dealing with this company for many years.
Lowepro Camera Bags There are so many wonderful choices of camera bags available to us. My favorites are by Lowepro, because they are very lightweight (which helps when we start adding weight from our cameras, lenses, speedlights, filters, batteries and everything else we carry in them, plus the are very versatile and can expand as my needs expand. Other bags I use for different occasions are ThinkTank's Rotation 360, and a Pelican travel backpack with wheels and a telescoping handle. Both carry my 17" MacBook Pro easily, when I need to travel or shoot with it. But on most occasions I use one of my many Lowepro's.
Nik Software and Plugins From its website: "Established in 1995, Nik Software has become the recognized leader in digital photographic filter development and produces award-winning technology and software products for digital photography and imaging professionals including U Point® technology, Dfine®, Viveza®, Color Efex Pro™, Silver Efex Pro™, and Sharpener Pro™ software." From me: This stuff rocks! And wait 'til you see what they have for us around the corner! I saw a sneak preview recently. One word: WOW.
Nikon Equipment and Resources, by Thom Hogan If you're a Nikon shooter, or are considering getting Nikon cameras, lenses or other gear, or if you want to know anything Nikon, you won't want to miss Thom's comprehensive site. As primarily a Nikon shooter myself, of course I love all things Nikon but I'm not a "brand snob" - whichever manufacturer, be it Nikon, Canon, or others, offers what I'm looking for, that's what I'll use.
Outdoor Photographer I subscribe to many photography magazines. This is one of my faves. Besides the wealth of information and the stunning images and story contributions by renowned photographers, I am proud to have met many of those photographers, and the list of those I'm honored to have met, from all over the country, seems to grow each year. When I grow up, I want to be just like some of these wonderful people, and maybe 1/2 as talented. If you don't already read this magazine and want to know more about outdoor photography (and really, any type of photography), this is a worthy and inexpensive investment, and a fun magazine to read.
Topaz Labs (image & video enhancements) Two words: "Must have!" The Photoshop plugins developed by this wonderful company are among the top few that I use to unleash my creativity, add flair and pizazz to my images, and make my photos come to life in ways I'd never have imagined before. Their long line of products are easy to use and intuitive, and the interfaces are practically art in and of themselves. But what grabs me just as much as its products is its team. You simply won't get better support. And they are always on the move, pioneering new ways to bring out our creativity.
Wacom Tablets & Displays From Wacom's website: "Inspired by natural human abilities to create, our patented pen and touch input technology allows freedom of expression, inspired creativity, and drastic improvements in productivity, control and comfort. From product development and graphic design to the media and entertainment sectors, Wacom facilitates the work of individuals and workgroups with truly natural ways to work with digital content." I use two of their products: the 2nd gen. 21" Cintiq 21UX as my side-by-side graphics monitor with my iMac, and the Intuous 3 tablet with my MacBook Pro, along with various graphics pens and nibs. Both are without doubt my best time-savers during post-processing and graphics design, plus they make it fun! Highly recommended!
